Students are working on writing a thesis statement and coming up with at least three supporting details to support their opinion.
In reading we launched our Mystery Unit! Students become detectives looking for clues and suspects to try and solve the mystery! Within this unit, we will focus on predicting, summarizing, and character traits.
In PBL students are now going to Ms. Mezile to learn all about Colonization! More information regarding this unit will be coming home in Thursday folders! :)

Week 2
Parents,
We are off to another great week! I have continued to enjoy getting to know each of your children. They are truly a great group of kids! Students are expected to write in their agendas everyday upon arriving at school. Please take a look to see what their homework is each night.
Here is a look into our week:
Reading: We have officially launched our first unit, Building a Reading Life! This unit focuses on students laying a strong foundation for reading. This week is all about finding a good fit book, reading as if books are gold, and setting goals for reading. My hope and goal is that your child develops a love for reading by the end of this unit!
Nightly Reading Homework: Each night students are required to read 20 minutes. Students should track the minutes read each night on the full monthly calendar in their agenda. If possible, please initial on each day!
Writing: Yesterday we launched our Crafting True Stories (Personal Narrative) Unit! Within this unit, students are creating true stories about a small moment from their life. This week, we are focusing on gathering ideas to build small moment narratives.
PBL: We are finishing up our Maps Unit this week! Students are learning about the 5 major rivers and 2 major mountain ranges in the United States—ask your child to sing you the chant!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments and/or concerns! I am excited about a great year!
